The definition of “hosting” does not describe a particular service, but a variety of services that provide numerous functions to a domain. Having a site and e-mails, for instance, are two independent services even though in the general case they come together, so most people think of them as one single service. The truth is, every domain has a couple of DNS records called A and MX, which show the server that manages each particular service - the first one is a numeric IP address, that specifies where the website for the domain is loaded from, while the latter is an alphanumeric string, which shows the server that handles the emails for the domain. For example, an A record is 123.123.123.123 and an MX record can be mx1.domain.com. Whenever you open a website or send an e-mail, the global DNS servers are contacted to check the name servers that a Internet domain has and the traffic/message is first directed to that company. When you have custom records on their end, the web browser request or the email will then be sent to the correct server. The idea behind working with separate records is that the two services work with different web protocols and you can have your website hosted by one company and the e-mails by another.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting through our company, you're going to be able to view, set up and modify any A or MX record for your Internet addresses. So long as a given domain name has our Name Servers, you're going to be able to change certain records via our Hepsia hosting Control Panel and have your website or emails pointed to another company if you wish to use only one of our services. Our innovative tool is going to permit you to have a domain name hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by modifying only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name the slightest bit. If you decide to use the email services of another provider and they want you to create more than 2 MX records, you can easily do that with simply a couple of clicks in the DNS Records section of your CP. You can also set different latency for every single MX record i.e. which one will have priority.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and changing the A or MX records for any of your domain names or subdomains is incredibly easy if you get a semi-dedicated server plan through our company. The accounts are managed through our in-house built Hepsia CP, which has a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domains. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you may click on every one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record will be as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even when you have never dealt with such matters before, you won't encounter any difficulties if you want to point your website or emails to a different provider while keeping the second service with our company. When needed, you may also create additional MX records and set a specific priority based on the recommendations of the new provider.
